Academics

One year old children are taught to play together with one another, sharing and interacting in positive ways.  They listen to stories, put puzzles together, practice expressing their needs through speech, and learn that separation from parents is only temporary.  They learn that school is a good place for learning and growing together.

The 2 and 3 year old curriculum is built around the A Beka Program with supplementation as teachers see the need.  Lessons are chocked full of games, music, and activities that provide for learning letter shapes and letter sounds.  Activities include writing practice and using finger games, painting, gluing, and using crayons.  Number recognition materials are specially designed for the young child.  Students enjoy tracing pathways, doing dot-to-dot, and coloring large simple forms.  Students complete simple crafts, learn to listen to stories, memorize Bible verses, sing simple songs, and learn rhymes.  Weekly chapel is accompanied by daily Bible lessons.  Music classes meet once a week.  The preschool curriculum is age appropriate and prepares children for success in school.

Four year old preschool students learn pre-reading skills, and many learn to read simple passages by the end of the year.  The A Beka Program is the basis of the curriculum for our preschool.  Students develop language and listening skills through stories, poems, and finger plays.  The program is lively and active, so children receive an enjoyable educational foundation while they develop a love for learning.  Activities are carefully sequenced to provide instruction in letter and number recognition, letter sounds, various vowel sounds, blends, reading simple one and two syllable words.  Phonics lessons are emphasized for the development of strong reading skills.  Math lessons include the introduction to simple concepts, recognition of numbers, counting, forming numbers, and matching objects to numbers.  Coloring pages designed to help the young child develop eye-hand coordination, writing readiness, visual perception, listening and thinking skills.  Students receive daily Bible lessons and devotions, as well as attending weekly chapel.  Classes in art, music, physical education, and technology meet weekly.

Kindergarten – third grade – The curriculum of the primary grades emphasize reading and math skills through the A Beka Curriculum. As students learn to write letters correctly, they learn letter sounds and phonics rules.  Skills are regularly reviewed and reinforced through little books, practice tablets, skill books, and word books.  The intensive phonics approach ensures that students, not only learn to read, but to sound out new words and expand their own learning.  All materials in the lower elementary grades are correlated to build upon the phonics foundation provided by the A Beka Curriculum.  A school library provides a wide selection of books at the appropriate level for all readers. Reading comprehension is reinforced through a library reading program known as Reading Counts. Students acquire points for reading and passing a comprehension test on each book they select.  Number concepts and formation of numbers, telling time, sequences, number words, and money are included in the early learning.  Students are drilled on math facts to insure easy recall, and experience number concepts through the use of manipulatives and pictures.  Daily lessons ensure confident spelling and grammatically correct writing.  Research skills are taught as essential skills for learning.  Students learn about God’s word through weekly chapel and daily Bible lessons.  Science and social studies help students to learn about the world around them and how God loves us all. All classes enjoy weekly lessons in art, music, physical education, and technology.

Fourth and fifth grades – Upper elementary students learn to read many kinds of materials with fluency in all subject areas. The intensity of study in social studies and science becomes greater.  Teachers use the Georgia Standards in all subjects to guide the development of lessons and the teaching of skills.   Subjects include reading, language arts, math, social studies, and science.  Weekly lessons in art, music, physical education, computer science and research are provided.  Students learn about God’s Word through weekly chapel and daily Bible lessons.

Middle School – Students in grades 6-8 experience the most up-to-date educational methods available through the partnership formed by The Trinity School and Georgia Cyber Academy.  Georgia Cyber Academy is a Georgia Charter School which is totally on line, using a well-researched curriculum entitled K-12. (The K-12 curriculum can be researched by accessing the link on our web site.)  Students receive instruction from certified teachers through Georgia Cyber Academy by way of the computer.  The instruction is enhanced by a teacher from The Trinity School who is present in the classroom.  Students use a combination of the computer, standard textbooks, and direct teacher instruction to receive the best levels of education.  Mastery learning insures that students complete a skill set or learn the required materials completely prior to moving to the next lessons. Field trips and lab experiences are common activities offered to middle school students through the K-12 curriculum.  Students acquire high levels of independence through this guided approach and attain very high levels of achievement.  In addition to the standard curriculum offered by Georgia Cyber School, The Trinity School provides art, music, physical education, and technology on a weekly basis.  Chapel meets once a week and daily Bible lessons are taught  Middle school students participate in local missions within the proximity of Cartersville/Bartow County and take a trip out of town at least once a year to reach out to others in need.
